a curatorial proposal

I had the pleasure of writing a curatorial proposal for a major Minimalist collection. The collectors already had examples of many of the giants from within the field, from Donald Judd to John McCracken. Sometimes, my role as an advisor is to provide new thought to what has already been built – in this case, suggesting capstone works that would enhance the existing collection as a whole. I introduced them to the work of Fred Eversley, a seasoned artist who has worked for many years in Los Angeles creating spun acrylic lenses. Sadly, the trajectory and importance of his practice was stymied for many years as the result of racial discrimination, a song that is played all too often in the art industry. With new representation at Kordansky in Los Angeles, Fred Eversley’s work has been re-introduced to the world. My curatorial proposal for the acquisition of multiple works by the artist was well-received. I was able to coordinate a unique bespoke experience for my clients, as a selection of multi-colored lenses were laid out in a private showing ahead of the scheduled public opening. The collectors were able to select the perfect pieces for their primary residence – four stunning two- and three-color works which are an exceptional addition to their Minimalist-focused collection. and unique bespoke memory to accompany them.
